Solo Librarian Special Interest Group Lunchtime Networking

SCRLC is hosting a meeting for their Solo Special Interest Group (SoloSIG)

This online gathering will permit solo library managers/directors/staff to explore common issues, solutions, and network with others in similar situations across the region.

Topics of discussion will be some best practices, tips, and tricks solos have discovered or invented to serve their users. The attendees will determine the format, topics, and timing of future sessions.

More transparency (and less abuse) for Impact Factor?

As was reported this month in Nature, Thomson Reuters is planning changes to the calculation system for its Journal Impact Factor metric. The company says this is being done in order to address longstanding and widespread criticism that Impact Factor is affecting the behavior of researchers, causing a crush of would-be authors all trying to submit to a relatively small number of high-Impact Factor journals.
