Position Summary Statement: With a high level of independent judgment and self-direction, establish dynamic, collaborative networks and relationships with the researchers, faculty, staff, and administration in Strong Memorial Hospital (SMH) Nursing Practice and in the School of Nursing.  Identify and support the information needs through the provision of novel services and tools.  Promote awareness of library services and resources, and developments in information management that can improve education, research, and patient care.  Develop and administer educational programs and instruct clientele, both formally and informally.

Our engagement-centered model embraces the concept that librarians, like all library staff, have  leadership responsibilities regardless of their position within Medical Center Libraries and Technologies.  Leadership on the part of librarians includes activities such as contributing to goals and strategic library directions through active participation on committees and task forces, locally, nationally, and internationally, and sharing expertise throughout the library in order to further library and University missions.

POSITION SUMMARY:
To monitor the fiscal performance of the Libraries and Contract Information Services.  Also, engage in innovative fundraising activities. To supervise library staff to maintain Workforce Excellence. To provide patient and job related information to RGHS staff and affiliated personnel, including Medical Staff.(Reference Librarian). To educate RGHS staff and affiliated personnel about information accessing procedures, including Library databases and the Internet. (Education Librarian). To promote the contract information services to maintain a stable base for present services and expand to new customers. To provide medical information to the general public, especially patients and families at RGHS facilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MLS, MSLS, or equivalent degree in Library Science or Information Science from an accredited program.  AHIP credentialing preferred.
  • 5+ years of previous Library work experience, plus some experience with computer networking, database searching, and budgeting.
  • Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills

SUNY Buffalo – Clinical Librarian and Liaison to the School of Dental Medicine

Job Description – Clinical Librarian and Liaison to the School of Dental Medicine (#1200264 )

POSITION SUMMARY:
The University at Buffalo Libraries is seeking a creative, energetic professional who is service-oriented and forward-thinking for the position of Clinical Librarian and Liaison to the School of Dental Medicine in the Health Sciences Library. This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian in an academic research-oriented environment with expectations for research, publication, and participation in professional associations. The Health Sciences Library serves the academic, clinical, and research information resource needs of the university’s schools of Dental Medicine, Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Public Health & Health Professions. The Health Sciences Library also serves as a resource library for Western New York in the National Network of Libraries of Medicine. The University is at the beginning of a multi-year strategic initiative to move its medical school to a new urban center campus adjacent to three of the area’s largest teaching hospitals and other UB-affiliated research centers, providing exciting new opportunities for innovative library resources and services.

As the Clinical Librarian for the School of Dental Medicine, the incumbent will establish new clinical librarian services in outpatient dental clinics in response to a new priority set by the School’s Dean and faculty. She/he will evaluate the impact of those services on student learning and faculty clinical research and will assist in the promotion and planning of clinical librarian services in other clinical and patient care settings of the health sciences schools.

As the Liaison to the School of Dental Medicine, the incumbent will be responsible for providing in-depth reference and research consultation services for users in the health sciences community; actively engaging with faculty in the School to integrate library resources and information literacy competencies into courses, curricula, and programs; evaluating and selecting print and electronic resources that support the research and academic instruction of the School; creating, designing, presenting, and assessing instruction to meet the needs of students and faculty in the School; understanding and implementing emerging trends in health sciences librarianship, evidence-based practice, scholarly communication, data management, and new technologies. This faculty position is a key member of the Health Sciences Library’s Reference and Education Services team and reports to the Associate Director of the Health Sciences Library.

The incumbent will be expected to actively participate in library and university committees, task forces, special projects, and initiatives and be professionally involved locally, regionally, and nationally. The incumbent supports the Libraries’ mission which values open communication, respect for diverse perspectives, and good working relationships.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and information science is required. Two years of experience in health sciences librarianship or two years of experience providing reference and library instruction services in a scientific research setting is required. The incumbent must possess a strong service orientation evident in the ability to provide exceptional service to a diverse clientele. Demonstrated commitment to working cooperatively and collaboratively with staff at all levels is essential. The incumbent must possess excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills. This position requires the creative capacity to foster and manage change. The incumbent must have a demonstrated commitment to professional development and show evidence of professional scholarly interests and potential to meet the University at Buffalo’s promotion and tenure standards in librarianship, research, service, and outreach.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in a biomedical or physical science or graduate-level coursework in a biomedical or physical science is preferred. Demonstrated teaching skills and experience in information management instruction is preferred. Experience with bibliographic management software is preferred. Experience with, or an understanding of, evidence-based practice concepts and tools is preferred. Experience with the provision of clinical librarian or informationist services in a clinical or hospital setting is preferred.

The field of public health encompasses a wide array of disciplines including health education, epidemiology and nursing.  Digital literacy and the effective utilization of online information are among the core public health informatics competencies for the 21st century.  This hands-on class will highlight web resources tailored to the public health workforce.

Upon successful completion of this class, each participant will receive 4 hours of continuing education credit awarded by the Medical Library Association.

Develop and lead innovative information services for the growing population of health sciences researchers at Cornell University in Ithaca.  Acquire and maintain expertise in information trends in the health sciences.  Partner with campus units including the Cornell Population Program, the Institute on Health Economics, Health Behaviors, and Disparities, the Sloan Program, and the Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research.  Maintain active connection with the Weill Cornell Medical Library, located in New York City. Deliver information services to the Cornell community including reference and consulting services and instruction in information management. Serve as library liaison to four departments: Biology and Society, Nutrition, Policy Analysis and Management, and Human Development.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library or Information Science Subject background in health sciences or allied subjects
  • Familiarity with software and tools for information management
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
