Research Specialist for GIS, University of Rochester

The River Campus Libraries at the University of Rochester seeks an innovative, collaborative GIS Librarian. The GIS Librarian will report to the Head of the Digital Humanities Center (DHC) and support GIS initiatives and projects across the disciplines with a particular focus in the humanities. Working closely with the Head of the Center, the Research Specialist will consult with faculty and students on specific GIS projects in support of their research, teaching, and learning activities. A priority for the Digital Humanities Center is working with faculty to integrate GIS data resources into their research and curriculum. The Research Specialist will work closely with all subject librarians and the Data Librarian in outreach efforts to identify and support GIS opportunities in the disciplines.  Current initiatives in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rochester include the Virtual St. George’s Project led by History Professor Mike Jarvis, and a new course, Digital Cityscapes, led by German Professor June Hwang. The ideal candidate will have a record of innovation and creativity in making GIS tools accessible, understandable, and applicable to an academic audience.

Research Data & Environmental Sciences Librarian – Cornell Univeristy

Albert R. Mann Library, part of the Cornell University Library, is looking for a creative energetic professional who is service oriented, technically skilled, and thrives in an innovative work environment. Candidates should have a strong background and interest in environmental science in order to develop and implement highly effective services in support of Cornell’s environmental sciences students, faculty and staff. The librarian will be a member of the campus-wide Research Data Management Service Group, and will work collaboratively to provide data management and data management planning services to the Cornell community. Working on a team with more than a dozen colleagues who make up the Mann Library Research and Learning Services and Collection Development librarians, the Research Data and Environmental Sciences Librarian will also have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to the overall public services program at Mann Library.

Cornell University – Museum Digitization Technician

This position requires expertise in basic curatorial methods associated with natural history collections of vertebrates. Under the supervisor of the Curators (Friel & Bostwick), will be responsible for various tasks directly related to digitizing, databasing and archiving ancillary assets linked to voucher specimens in the CUMV fish and bird collections, and associated media recordings in the Macaulay Library (ML) at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. This technician will work closely with the Curators (Friel & Bostwick) to develop and implement procedures and protocols to maximize the utility of these digital assets, and ensure proper links to all metadata for associated voucher specimens.
