Archives Processor (3 positions) – Union College

Excellent opportunity for graduate students or recent grads!

The Adirondack Research Library invites applications for part time graduate assistants to perform basic processing of materials in two archival collections, the John S. Apperson papers and the Paul Schaffer papers. The selected candidates will assist in the creation of Encoded Archival Description (EAD) finding aids, following standard rules of description: Describing Archives -A Content Standard (DACS). Additional responsibilities include appraising, preserving, rehousing, arranging and describing the two archival collections following prescribed guidelines, and flagging items of interest found in the collections for simultaneous item level metadata description. In addition, the Graduate Assistants will supervise the work of undergraduate students who will complete the metadata entry into specialized software programs.

Cornell University – Museum Digitization Technician

This position requires expertise in basic curatorial methods associated with natural history collections of vertebrates. Under the supervisor of the Curators (Friel & Bostwick), will be responsible for various tasks directly related to digitizing, databasing and archiving ancillary assets linked to voucher specimens in the CUMV fish and bird collections, and associated media recordings in the Macaulay Library (ML) at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. This technician will work closely with the Curators (Friel & Bostwick) to develop and implement procedures and protocols to maximize the utility of these digital assets, and ensure proper links to all metadata for associated voucher specimens.
