Archives Conservation Specialist – Albany, NY

Job Description:

The State Education Departments Office of Cultural Education (OCE) is seeking to fill an Archives Conservation Specialist (ACS) 1 position. Under the direction of an ACS 3, the incumbent will perform conservation/preservation activities for paper-based collections in the Office of Cultural Education. Collections encompass, but are not limited to, archival holdings, manuscripts, prints, drawings, and maps.

This will be a provisional appointment.

Cornell University – Museum Digitization Technician

This position requires expertise in basic curatorial methods associated with natural history collections of vertebrates. Under the supervisor of the Curators (Friel & Bostwick), will be responsible for various tasks directly related to digitizing, databasing and archiving ancillary assets linked to voucher specimens in the CUMV fish and bird collections, and associated media recordings in the Macaulay Library (ML) at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. This technician will work closely with the Curators (Friel & Bostwick) to develop and implement procedures and protocols to maximize the utility of these digital assets, and ensure proper links to all metadata for associated voucher specimens.

The Vignelli Center also contains an exhibition display area and hosts a variety of public events in support of the Center’s mission and its unique collections.

The Cornell University Library, Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections seeks a Senior Manuscript Processor.  Under the direction of the Head of Archival Technical Services, be responsible for a combination of technical services and public services functions. Perform cataloging, arrangement and description of archival collections, prepare detailed finding aids using Encoded Archival Description (EAD) and other national standards.  Assist with digital projects including the preparation of materials for digitization and the creation of descriptive metadata.  Facilitate patron use of collections by providing reference assistance to researchers, providing security for rare and valuable materials used in the Reading Room, and monitoring and instructing researchers in the use of rare, valuable, fragile or irreplaceable items.  This position is a one-year, benefits-eligible term position ending on June 30, 2014.
