October is National Medical Librarians Month. The Middle Atlantic Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (MAR) would like to acknowledge the valuable work our medical librarians do by sharing your accomplishments, programs or value-added services with others.

We are asking you to send us your stories about any unique programs you developed, any outreach to the community you participated in, or any other value added services you offer to your organization or institution.

Webinar: Conversations about Data Citation

Data citation and data sharing have entered what might be called the “next phase” in scholarly communication. Funders expect and even require these behaviors. Publishers are increasingly providing support for data citation, data references, and data sharing. Is all the work done? Data curators, librarians, and other information professionals continue to face many questions from researchers: When do I get a DOI? Why should I share my research data? Will you do this for me? Join Joan Starr, EZID Service Manager, Matt Mayernik, Research Data Services Specialist with NCAR, and Mary Linn Bergstrom, Data Services Librarian at UC San Diego, for conversations about these and other issues. We hope you come ready to get involved in the discussion.

Open Access: Breaking Out All Over

Open access is no longer a case of if, but rather when and how we are going to cope with it. The 2013 White House directive was truly as stunning development, mandating open access to both publications and data for virtually all research funded by the Federal Government. How will the new policies shape the overall move towards open access? How will this impact our collections, services, and outreach.
