The PD Dispatch:  Professional Development Opportunities from the Legal Division

November 2012 Edition

Welcome!

November is gearing up to be a hot month (yes, even in the cold north!) for professional development in the Legal Division!  We have not on, but THREE excellent sessions heading your way.  All are, of course, open to all SLA members and are free of charge.  This month, however, we are also unveiling our “Windows on Practice” series that should prove of specific interest to our students and others looking to break into the profession.  Details on all sessions are below.  We hope to see you at them all!

Developing a Social Media “Records” Governance Strategy

Developing a Social Media “Records” Governance Strategy
Patricia C. Franks, PhD, CRM

Social media technologies enable conversations and interactions among individuals in the form of text, images, audio, and video often developed in an ad hoc and collaborative manner, resulting in information that may be transient in nature. However, in spite of this seemingly informal, user-friendly method of engaging in such exchanges, records are often created and must be managed. Attend this workshop to obtain advice on using social media and managing resulting within your organization, including accepted RIM best practices and effective governance policy.
