Art Librarian/Coordinator of Library Instruction, Alfred University (Alfred, NY)

Position Description: The Art Librarian/Coordinator of Library Instruction will be the lead professional in direct support of the distinguished undergraduate and graduate programs of the School of Art and Design.  The primary focus of this position is to work alongside art faculty to offer creative and meaningful instruction, learning assessment, and attentive library service.

Qualifications: A Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program is required.  Strong subject expertise, or degree in an Art related field is required.  Evidence of creativity and an understanding of best practices in instruction are required. The ability to work independently on multiple projects and excellent written and oral communication skills are also required.  The successful candidate will possess strengths in project management, leadership in team environments, and experience in the use of technology for instruction.
Formal training and/or experience in instruction is highly desirable.  Experience with social media promotion, outreach programming, and knowledge of special collections is also desirable.   A degree in Art or Education is not required, but is a plus.

Social Sciences Data/Geospatial Information Librarian, Olin/Uris Research and Learning Services (Ithaca, NY)

Cornell University’s John M. Olin and Uris Libraries’ Research and Learning Services Department (RLS) seeks an energetic, creative, and forward-thinking librarian to provide support for faculty and students in the discovery, analysis, and visualization of social sciences data, including spatial data. Reporting to the RLS Department Head, the librarian will be a partner and resource person for subject librarians and curators, and will collaborate closely with the RLS Digital Humanities Librarian, with colleagues in other unit libraries, and with the Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research (CISER). This is a newly-redefined position, starting at the rank of assistant librarian, and the successful candidate will shape the position, providing leadership in expanding RLS’s social science data services and programs.

Digital Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian at The Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY)

The Wallace Center (TWC) at Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for an experienced and industrious Digital Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian to support the nation’s first Digital Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS) Bachelor Degree program and to cultivate the University’s growing digital humanities/social sciences efforts.
The DHSS Librarian will advise and collaborate with students, staff, and faculty to develop digital projects spanning the disciplines of anthropology, art, communication, history, literature, linguistics, philosophy, political science, sociology and numerous interdisciplinary fields. By identifying and applying new technologies, practices, tools, trends, and innovative approaches to digital and physical resources, the DHSS Librarian will foster dynamic projects that showcase the wealth of new discoveries possible for practitioners within these fields and move these disciplines forward and in potentially new directions. The DHSS librarian will demonstrate knowledge of the area by developing and offering relevant training classes on useful technologies and by promoting potential and realized successes the field possesses. Additionally, the DHSS Librarian will assist in identifying and applying for grants that provide for and enhance the equipment within the TWC Digitization Lab and expand the resources that support advancement in digital research, teaching, and learning for the entire campus.
Position Requirements:
  • ALA-accredited M.L.S or M.S. in Library and Information Science, M.I.S. or Master’s degree in a related field.

Assistant Curator, Poetry Collection (Senior Assistant Librarian), University at Buffalo (Buffalo, NY)

The Special Collections unit of the University at Buffalo Libraries seeks dynamic applicants for the position of Assistant Curator in the Poetry Collection. Founded in 1937, the Poetry Collection is the library of record for 20th– and 21st-century Anglophone poetry and is comprehensive in its collection of first and other bibliographically significant editions, little literary magazines and journals, broadsides, anthologies, criticism and reference materials. Additionally, the collection holds more than 150 archives and manuscript collections from a wide range of poets, presses, magazines and organizations including James Joyce, William Carlos Williams, Helen Adam, Robert Duncan, Robert Graves, Dylan Thomas, Jargon and Wyndham Lewis. The Poetry Collection is also a regional repository for many of the publishers and arts organizations of Western New York. There are also substantial collections of artwork, audio recordings, ephemera, photographs, visual poetry and zines, making it one of the largest poetry libraries of its kind in the world.
