Growing number of converts to Google Scholar

Growing number of converts to Google Scholar

“”Google is the dominant referral source for online journal articles, far surpassing the amount of traffic driven by other discovery tools” or so says an article in this week’s issue of the journal Science. And while there are some detractors who point out how easy it is to plant false citations to papers in the index and the precise algorithm remains as opaque as with any other of Google’s services, Scholar’s director robustly defends it as improving and growing all the time.

Student Shadow Nancarrow Brown Recounts her Recent Conference Experience!

Student Shadow Nancarrow Brown Recounts her Recent Conference Experience!

I had the privilege to be selected as a student shadow for the UNYSLA fall workshop: The Librarian’s Toolbox: Reopened. I met many interesting local professionals at the event and heard a number of presentations everything ranging from marketing through Pinterest to using citation makers. These workshops provided information about tools that I need to work on adding or developing within my toolbox. Each will be beneficial to me in the future and to my members. As a student shadow, I had the opportunity to introduce two local librarians, Sarah Thiemer and Sarah Young.

Thank you to everyone who attended Thursday’s dinner at Rico’s Ristorante. We had some great conversations about collection development, promotion requirements, latest happenings at our libraries, and of course there were cute dog photos. Oh and did we mention the cannolis!
