POSITION TITLE: Science and Engineering Outreach Librarian
POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Library Professional II
DEPARTMENT:  Science and Engineering Libraries
STATUS:  Full-time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The River Campus Libraries (RCL) is seeking a creative, collaborative librarian to join the team in the Science and Engineering Libraries. This role supports the scholarly pursuits of the faculty and students in: Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Digital Media Studies. The work of these departments involves code, online technologies, physical computing (arduino, sensors, raspberry pi, etc.), high tech tools (3D printing, makerspace tools, etc.) and creative applications of new media of all varieties; a keen interest and aptitude in these areas is an asset. Key responsibilities include:building strong relationships with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and with partners across the institution; collaborating with faculty in support of learning and research; providing face-to-face and virtual reference and research consultation; fostering a dynamic research environment that encourages inquiry, critical thinking, and creativity; and developing high quality collections.

Specific to the position:

  • Post-graduate degree in library and information science from an A.L.A.-accredited institution
  • A strong, demonstrated service ethic and customer-centered thinking
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and deliver research and instruction services with creativity
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to form strong connections with faculty and students
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Willingness to explore the use of new technology in support of effectively achieving goals with a high tolerance for risk and failure
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong commitment to diversity

Preferred Qualification & Competencies:

  • Advanced degree or coursework in one or more fields related to this position
  • An interest in and aptitude for exploring new technologies, makerspace tools, and innovations in physical computing
  • Experience working in an academic library
