Head of Bibliographic and Digital Services, SUNY Oneonta (Oneonta, NY)

Job Description:

The James M. Milne Library at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a calendar year, tenure-track position as Head of Bibliographic and Digital Services.  This position will be as an Associate Librarian, reporting to the Library Director.  Expectations include librarianship, research, college service, and continuing professional development.  The Milne Library will be one of the vanguard libraries within the SUNY system to adopt SUNY’s new LSP, Ex Libris ALMA, in March 2018. Duties include but not limited to:  providing leadership, vision and expertise to the department of Bibliographic and Digital Services; providing budget management and statistical analysis; training, mentoring, and supervising library staff in the department; contributing to policy development and assessment of the department and Library; participating in the migration to the new SUNY LSP (Ex Libris ALMA); overseeing all aspects of the Library’s technical services such as cataloging, acquisitions, and technical processing; providing reference and liaison services; working collaboratively as a team; serving on Library and College committees; engaging in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion. To meet tenure-track requirement, the successful candidate will perform effectively as a librarian, serve on library and campus committees, make scholarly contributions to the field, and pursue ongoing professional development.


Required Qualifications:  Master’s degree in library or information sciences from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent credential); minimum 3-5 years professional experience as a librarian, with 1-2 years of experience supervising full-time library staff; experience with cataloging, collection development, acquisitions and/or library technical services; demonstrated understanding of current and emerging practices and trends in cataloging, acquisitions and e-resources; experience in budget planning and expenditure analysis; experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS); excellent written communication skills as evidenced by application materials; evidence of leadership in a team-based environment.

Preferred:  professional experience in an academic library setting; experience with Ex Libris systems such as ALMA and Primo; experience participating in the migration to a new library system; knowledge of and familiarity with licensing of electronic resources; experience with assessment; experience working with and maintaining relationships with vendors; experience working in consortia environments;  experience working with and serving diverse populations.
