Web Developer, Syracuse University Libraries (Syracuse, NY)

The Syracuse University Libraries is seeking to hire a Web Developer, as part of their Information Technology department. The Web Developer will participate in the design, implementation, and deployment of the Libraries’ various websites. Additionally, the Web Developer will collaborate with peers, librarians, and other staff to develop and implement integrating technologies to bridge various software systems deployed by the Libraries. Software solutions developed by the Web Developer must be robust, stable, effective, and visually appealing to all users internally and externally including students, faculty, staff, and public patrons. The resulting software solutions must comply with all technical and operational standards including responsive design, accessibility, University’s style guide and others standards as defined by the Libraries, the University, and generally accepted practices. Finally, the Web Developer will participate in expanding the Libraries’ outreach through the effective use of emerging technologies and stay informed of leading edge technical trends and solutions.

Job-Specific Qualifications

• Expert in responsive web design and architectures utilizing PHP, HTML5, CSS3, XMLXSLT, and javascript (including ajax) technologies deployed on distributed Linux platforms.
• Practical experience using Adobe Creative Suite and/or SQL database software is highly desirable.
• Experience applying web accessibility requirements in software solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the capacity to assimilate previously unfamiliar software solutions.
• Able to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and as an individual contributor with the ability to communicate effectively with peers outside the IT discipline.
• Willing to providing on-call technical support for systems for which they have a responsibility.
• Experience with large-scale, multi-disciplinary software development project planning and management is desirable.
