Executive Director – Capital District Library Council

The Capital District Library Council (CDLC) is seeking a dynamic and creative library leader to become the organization’s next Executive Director. This individual will provide leadership and work with the CDLC Board of Trustees to articulate the vision of the Council to develop and deliver programs and meet member needs in a changing information service environment. The Capital District Library Council is one of New York’s nine Reference and Research Library Resources (NY 3Rs) multi-type systems. Members of the NY 3Rs include individual libraries – academic, special, hospital, and public – as well as public and school library systems. CDLC facilitates information management, staff development, and resource sharing for the libraries of the ten-county Capital District region of upstate New York optimizing success through collaboration. CDLC promotes leading-edge reference and research resources to the region; strengthens cooperation among all types of libraries including museums and archives; facilitates communication among CDLC members and their staffs; and supports exploration and innovation in library services.

Required qualifications include an MLIS degree or equivalent; at least eight full years of post-Master of Library Science professional library experience, at least two years of which shall have been in an administrative capacity; a proactive, positive and professional attitude; demonstrated success in program development and implementation; demonstrated success in supervising and motivating staff; excellent verbal and written communications skills; flexibility and the ability to advance the organization in a changing information service environment; and possession of or eligibility for a New York State Public Librarian Certificate. Familiarity with current library trends and demonstrated involvement in professional organizations are preferred qualifications.

This is a full-time position with a competitive benefits package and a starting salary of $80,000.
