Webinar: Using Big Data for Library Advocacy

Webinar: Using Big Data for Library Advocacy, Tuesday, Dec 17, 1:00-2:00 p.m. EST (US)

Join this session on the basics of “Big Data” and “Data Science”, including a discussion of the data that libraries can collect, store and use.  Collecting large amounts of complex data can help to assess your library’s services and your library’s advocacy efforts.  Jill Hurst-Wahl and Erin Bartolo will also explore the similarities between data science and library skills.

This session is based on a successful session given by Jill and Erin at the New York Library Association Annual Conference on Sept. 27, 2013.

Jill Hurst-Wahl is an associate professor of practice in Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies and the director of both its library and information science & school media programs. She is a member of SLA’s Board of Directors and the USNY Technology Policy and Practices Council.

Erin Bartolo is Program Manager for the iSchool at Syracuse University’s Data Science Certificate of Advanced Study program.
