Access Services Technician I (part-time, evenings and weekends)

Perform selected public service tasks in support of the overall library function. Technician must have strong verbal skills, both oral and in writing; patience and tact while participating in conversations with readers; computer data entry skills. Works without direct supervision evenings and/or weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor student assistant attendance, report problems to supervisor, and substitute when necessary.
  • Open and/or close facility.
  • Answer elementary directional and policy questions/concerns and refer to librarians when necessary.
  • Answer telephone.
  • Maintain photocopy, printer, and microform equipment by adding toner and paper, clearing paper jams, providing signage for out of service equipment.
  • Create current periodical bibliographic records when needed.
  • Pick up library materials left by readers and return to sorting shelves.
  • Assist the public with locating, retrieving, and checking out materials.
  • Sort books, bound journals, and magazines for shelving.
  • Walk through the facility periodically to monitor activity.
  • Record circulation desk activity statistics.
  • Retrieve interlibrary loan books for readers,
  • Charge/discharge books and other materials.
  • Performcirculation overrides as appropriate.
  • Work with Campus Safety staff to maintain safe environment.
  • Shelve library materials.
  • Telephone supervisor to report problems, incidents, etc. as appropriate.
  • Accept reserve materialsand/or lists from faculty.
  • Search for library materials when patron cannot locate it.
  • Train student workers as needed.
  • Empty book drops and sort contents.
