Acquisitions Assistant/Library Specialist III

Acquires and intakes information content in all formats from a wide variety of vendors and sources. Maintains knowledge of and contributes to development of general acquisitions workflows and policies. Processes orders for requested items, material received on approval, and gifts. Assists with receipts of other types of new acquisitions. Contacts vendors and publishers to resolve problems. Supervises and trains student assistants. Participates in other library and department projects as needed.
Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree or equal combination of education and relevant experience; Minimum 1-3 years related experience; Ability to use independent judgment, solve problems, manage details, and make decisions; Ability to learn new skills and systems and develop new workflows to accommodate new systems and services: Ability to build and be an effective member of a working team; Strong communication and conflict resolution skills; Service oriented and good public relations skills required to represent Union College to outside vendors and internal constituents; Strong computer experience; Library acquisition experience, general knowledge of the current publishing industry, and facility with at least one foreign language are highly desirable; Knowledge of MARC and/or other national standards for bibliographic information and data sharing are preferred; Supervisory experience is preferred.
