Research Librarian – Nixon Peabody

Nixon Peabody LLP is seeking a professional, self-motivated, tech-savvy, energetic individual to provide research support in a fast-paced, exciting work environment.

Job Requirements:

  •     Masters of Library Science or Juris Doctor degree.
  •     3-4 years professional library related experience in a legal, corporate or professional services setting conducting in-depth research.
  •     Highly developed analytical and critical thinking skills.
  •     Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple time sensitive and diverse projects.
  •     Superior ability to excel in a fast paced environment under tight deadlines.
  •     Demonstrated commitment to providing superior quality client service.
  •     Self-motivated, detail oriented and organized with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  •     Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  •     Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals at all levels.
  •     Superior knowledge of business and industry resources, including NYS legal and legislative materials. Solid proficiency in the use of both print and online resources.

Responsibilities:

  •     Provide in-depth legal and business information to attorneys and staff in a wide variety of practice areas using both print and online resources, including LexisAdvance, WestlawNext, and other databases.
  •     Gather, filter, synthesize and present a summary of research findings to attorneys and staff to facilitate decision making and business planning.
  •     As part of the firm-wide Library & Research Services Team, collaborate and coordinate with library staff in other geographies to provide seamless research service for attorneys in all firm locations. Assume primary responsibility for research requests from the Upstate New York offices. Projects may involve occasional trips to perform research at courts and other libraries in the Rochester area.
  •     Provide business development research for attorneys and the Marketing Department, including proactive current awareness monitoring and preparation of company and industry reports.
  •     Train new and existing attorneys and staff in cost effective research methods through a variety of formats including both online and web enabled training.
  •     Participate in ongoing product and service evaluation and resource/collection development activities.
  •     Participate in other Library & Research Services special projects as requested.
  •     Continue professional development through various firm and association sponsored activities.
