SUNY New Paltz -Instructional Designer

Instructional Designer

Duties: Provide expertise to faculty in pedagogically based instructional and program design for the development and support of online and hybrid courses and specialized educational programs. Work closely with technical staff to manage the instructional development process for online and hybrid courses and programs. Develop learning resources using a broad array of instructional tools. Set and monitor standards, with faculty input, for online and hybrid curriculum design and instruction. Develop and manage assessment process for existing and new online and hybrid courses.

-Work closely with faculty to analyze their course needs, identify knowledge gaps and manage the process of online and hybrid course design and development.
-Develop curriculum guides for courses and programs which include standards and timelines for retooling such types of courses and programs.
-Design a formal assessment process, and work closely with faculty to assess course and technology effectiveness, learning outcomes, and practices used to teach online/hybrid and specialized programs.
-Work collaboratively with Instructional Technology staff to design and implement training programs/module/seminars, etc. for faculty that address student learning styles and best practices for designing and teaching online and hybrid courses.
-Provide opportunities that help faculty integrate the use of available and appropriate technologies that will enhance the teaching and learning experience.

-A master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in instructional design; information science and technology; library science; or in a related field is required.
-Knowledge of learning theory and practices for higher education that will inform the development of effective teaching and learning strategies for online/hybrid courses and specialized educational programs based on the latest understanding and practices of eLearning.
-Broad knowledge of open source and proprietary electronic learning platforms. Experience with a variety of print, graphic, audio, video, and mobile media resources.
-Knowledge of a range of software platforms that include Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, Blackboard; Web 2.0; and eMobil Learning.
-Two to five years of experience in higher education using current learning theory and technology; should include experience working with a course management system and other online technologies.
-Two to five years of designing and delivering workshops and training on curricular practices, as well as working one-on-one with faculty for course development and ongoing support. A portfolio of your development program(s) is requested.
-Successful record of working with faculty and students of diverse interest, abilities and experiences on academic computing projects using the Quality Matters approach or a similar assurance process in online or blended learning.
-Current knowledge of copyright/intellectual property policies.
-Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment balancing multiple and competing priorities.
