Cornell U – Career Development Specialist

The Career Development Specialist for the office of Cornell Career Services serves as advising specialist on careers, jobs, and internships related to the areas of teaching, nonprofit, and gap year. Develop expertise on career print and web-based reference materials, social media (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) and web-based tools for undergraduate and graduate students. Provide general career advising through walk-ins, scheduled appointments, telephone, email, information sessions, and workshops; resume and cover letter reviews; mock interviews; and other individualized services. Create, develop, and promote programs, workshops, information sessions and panel presentations. Take the lead role in the coordination and execution of Peer Advisor program. Responsible for planning and coordination of Summer Opportunities and Non-Profit Government Career Fairs.

This is an ongoing,10-month (out of 12) appointment.

Qualifications

Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in college student personnel, education, or library science and four or more years in a student services environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong service orientation. Skill in written and oral communication, including excellent presentation skills; organizational ability essential. Experience with researching information in libraries/on the Internet; Macintosh/PC computers; Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and FileMaker Pro or other database manager applications. Knowledge of trends in the use of Social Media in education and strong motivation to increase knowledge of new and existing information technologies.


Preferred Qualifications
Some graduate education in library science or counseling preferred. Familiarity with Cornell University, including its library system, desirable.
