Job Description: This position is responsible for the planning, integration, and promotion of all library resources (Neil Hellman Library, Patricia Standish Curriculum Library, College Archives) and services to advance the educational mission of the College. Oversees and directs the development of the collections, a comprehensive budget and associated expenditures as well as oversight of the building, staffing and day-to-day operations.


  • Provide vision and leadership for ongoing development and implementation of the library’s strategic and operational plans.
  • Manage library budget of approximately $1.7million and advocate for new funding as appropriate
  • Lead and coordinate assessments of library resources and services
  • Oversee the delivery of and participate in reference services
  • Lead and coordinate the development and maintenance of the library’s online presence
  • Oversee collection development, including online resources and demand-driven acquisition
  • Collaborate with the Library Committee to develop the library budget
  • Oversee the hiring, training, supervision and scheduling of approximately 25 library personnel
  • Lead and coordinate staff performance appraisals
  • Serve in the role of dean or department chair as appropriate for faculty librarian promotion and tenure; serve as chair of the library’s Probationary Faculty Evaluation Committee
  • Lead efforts to promote the library to students, faculty, and administrators
  • Collaborate with library faculty and administrators to formulate and administer library policies, rules, and regulations
  • Serve as primary liaison with library consortia
  • Serve as the library’s primary contact with departments and the College for accreditation-related data gathering and reporting
  • Provide overall management of library facilities in collaboration with appropriate College offices
  • Chair Library Committee; serve on Academic & Student Affairs and Academic Technology Committees


  • M.L.S. or M.S.I.S. from an ALA-accredited program (or international equivalent).
  • Proven ability to effectively lead in a collaborative, collegial manner.
  • Minimum of five years management and/or supervisory experience in a library serving higher education.
  • Strong service orientation and proven ability to promote libraries’ role in the teaching/learning process, including strong reference skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated successful budgeting and fiscal management.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management and personnel management.
  • Experience with information technologies and automated library systems, and knowledge of emerging standards and practices.
  • Ability to foster a culture of inclusion and to engage effectively across a range of stakeholders, including those at the most senior levels.
  • Experience working with a diverse student body.
  • Direct experience with system migration and implementation of new tools (e.g. link resolver, discovery service, content management system) is desired.
  • Knowledge of standards and practices for digital assets is desired.
