Title: Library Assistant

The academic librarian is a part time evening staff member who works 8 hours per week during academic semesters (one evening and every Saturday.) This position performs both librarian and instructional duties in a team environment where library, instructional, tutoring and testing services collaborate and share knowledge of resources and techniques to facilitate accomplishment of work goals and the College’s mission and vision. As librarian, he/she provides reference services to students, faculty, and staff using electronic, print and Internet resources as well as shares in the responsibility of providing QuestionPoint 24/7 virtual reference services.


  • Provides reference services to students, faculty, and staff using electronic, print, and Internet resources
  • Assists students in using research tools, locating on-site materials, and online information sources
  • Collaborates in the development and preparation of teaching aids and pathfinders including those based on new applications of technology
  • Creates and monitors library materials produced in-house for consistency, attractiveness, and informational quality
  • Shares in participation of QuestionPoint 24/7 virtual reference services and keeps up-to-date on training as it occurs
  • Assists with the maintenance of library management system to ensure that the campus library portal meets the changing needs of the campus community
  • Contributes to collection management and development activities including making sound decisions on annual periodical subscriptions and book/audio/video purchases
  • Assists with the preparation of statistical and other informational reports to System Office as scheduled or requested
  • Collaborates with faculty on all library instruction activities including scheduling and delivering subject-specific library instruction and maintains up-to-date and easily accessible schedule of classroom visits and faculty/librarian consultations
  • Supports and actively participates in new and continuing student activities related to the College’s enrollment, retention, and graduation goals
  • Keeps current with reading professional publications and participates in local and regional conferences and meetings
  • Proctors placement exams


  • ALA accredited MLS or MLIS degree required
  • Experience in an academic library preferred and experience in college teaching a plus
  • Proficiency with electronic, print, and Internet resources
  • Strong awareness and understanding of Information Literacy and its relationship to job and career
  • Ability to manage changing environments, including business challenges, technologies, etc.
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent organizational, interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work harmoniously with colleagues in a team environment
