Description: We have all experienced a bad meeting. A group of people gathers together for an hour or more and, at the end, nothing feels like it has been accomplished and you leave feeling like you’ve lost time, or that you’ve been a guest star in an episode of the Twilight Zone. It need not be this way. In fact, a good meeting can re-energize a team, leaving them filled with a sense of purpose and understanding about their goals, a certain project, and/or the organization as a whole. This session will help managers develop the skills necessary to run an effective meeting and increase the productivity of the meetings they facilitate.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the five key factors in preparing for a meeting.
  • Explain the different roles and responsibilities of the participants in a meeting.
  • Use the skills necessary to keep a meeting on track and accomplish the meeting objectives.
  • Demonstrate different techniques to move a group to consensus.
  • Manage conflicts that may arise between meeting participants.

Target Audience: Library managers at all levels. Also, library professionals and staff who want to develop their management skills in preparation for more responsibility.
