Job Description -Medical Education Services Librarian and Liaison to the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (#1200875)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The University at Buffalo Libraries seek a creative, energetic professional who is service-oriented and forward-thinking for the position of Medical Education Services Librarian and Liaison to the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in the Health Sciences Library. This is an open-rank 12-month tenure-track faculty appointment in an academic research-oriented environment. This position will be filled at the Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian level depending on the candidate’s experience and record of research, scholarship and professional service. Applicants for the Senior Assistant Librarian position must demonstrate a beginning research trajectory and the potential to excel in research, scholarship and professional service. Applicants for the Associate Librarian are expected to have a record of research, scholarly publications and professional service appropriate to this rank. Applicants for either rank must possess the ability to meet the University at Buffalo’s promotion and tenure standards in librarianship, research, service and outreach.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and information science
  • One year of relevant experience in health sciences librarianship providing reference and library instruction services in an academic, medical, research or special library
  • Strong and effective interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience using mobile devices, social networking and other forms of technology to deliver information services
  • Advanced computer skills and the ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Strong service orientation in order to provide exceptional service to a diverse clientele
  • Demonstrated commitment to working cooperatively and collaboratively with staff at all levels
  • Creative capacity to foster and manage change
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the University at Buffalo’s promotion and tenure standards in librarianship, research, service and outreach

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in a biomedical or physical science or graduate-level coursework in a biomedical or physical science
  • Demonstrated teaching skills and experience in information management instruction
  • Experience with bibliographic management software
  • Experience with, or an understanding of, evidence-based practice concepts and tools
  • Knowledge of scholarly communication and open access initiatives
  • Experience with the provision of clinical librarian or informationist services in a clinical or hospital setting
