Job Description – Art Librarian / Coordinator of Library Instruction

The Art Librarian/Coordinator of Library Instruction reports to the Director of Scholes Library and serves as primary liaison to faculty and students in the School of Art and Design. This librarian will also provide supplementary reference service to faculty and students of the School of Engineering and full participation in collaborative initiatives with librarians at Alfred University’s Herrick Library.

The Art Librarian/Coordinator of Library Instruction is a 10-month, probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. This librarian will assume multiple leadership responsibilities in the areas of art librarianship, library instruction, information literacy program development, learning assessment, and oversight of the library’s visual resources and digitization area. A primary focus of this position will be to develop a meaningful information literacy curriculum and an accompanying assessment plan to guide activities of an instructional team serving the programs of the NYS College of Ceramics.

A Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program and an undergraduate degree in an Art related field is required. Broad and specialized subject knowledge of art, design and related fields; knowledge of current best practices in information science; strong technology skills and instruction experience are essential. The ability to work independently on multiple projects and excellent written and oral communication skills are also required.

In addition, the successful candidate will possess demonstrated strengths in project management, leadership in team environments, familiarity with digital imaging services and experience in the use of technology for instruction. Formal training and/or experience in information literacy instruction and/or visual resources management are highly desirable. A second masters degree in Art or Education related field is a plus.
