Lawyers, Librarians, and Pirates:
Surviving the Ever Changing Seas of Copyright

Date: Friday, 19 October
Location: Craftsman Inn, Syracuse, NY (map)
Registration will be open soon.

On Friday, October 19, 2012, the Upstate New York Chapter of SLA will be holding their Fall Meeting just outside of Syracuse, NY.

We will be joined by:

  • Phil Frankel of Bond, Schoeneck & King LLC, who will discuss the recent events in the Georgia State lawsuit, and the implication they have for libraries and copyright in the coming years.
  • K. Matthew Dames of Syracuse University, who will discuss his Piracy Paradigm project, which explores the historical and legal paradigm under which U.S. copyright law has operated, how the current conflicts over intellectual property result from a challenge to that paradigm, and how that will influence policy and practices in the years to come.

As always, there will be ample opportunities to network with your peers from around New York State (and beyond), and students are especially welcome to attend. In fact, for those coming into town early, there will be a dutch treat networking dinner at one of Syracuse’s excellent restaurants Thursday night.

The meeting will be held at The Craftsman Inn and Conference Center in Fayetteville, NY. Lunch will be provided.

So please save the date, stay tuned for more details!
