Job Description – Coordinator of Cataloging and Metadata Services

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinator of Cataloging and Metadata Services [twelve month, library faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian] Reports to the Director of Library and Audiovisual Services

Responsibilities:

  1. Establish procedures and supervise cataloging of all newly acquired monographs, reference and audiovisual materials, special collections and archives items and other additions and transfers to library collections; performs both copy and original cataloging in multiple formats.
  2. Coordinate cataloging of serials and e-books with the Serials and Web Resources Librarian
  3. Coordinate processing of audiovisual materials with the Media and Reference Services Librarian
  4. Supervise and train staff in the technical processing of all materials for the library collections
  5. Working with others, maintain and upgrade the Innovative Interfaces cataloging module and the OCLC system interface so that our bibliographic and item records are complete, accurate and up-to-date and all systems are fully functional; work with others to develop new discovery tools for enhanced access to local, state and national collections Keep up-to-date with new cataloging trends.
  6. Work with Technical Services, Circulation and Reference staffs to ensure quality of cataloging and metadata and to promote use of the collections
  7. Catalog and process gift materials for the collections based upon the recommendations of the Collection Development Librarian and the Library Director
  8. Coordinate and report the annual inventory of collections with other library staff, as well as specialized inventories as needed; coordinate processing of withdrawals from the collections
  9. Coordinate the overall operations of technical services with the Collection Development Librarian and the Serials and Web Resources Librarian
  10. Provide reports and statistics to the Library Director as needed.
  11. Leads special projects as needed.

Other duties as a member of the Library Faculty:

  1. Provide research assistance and advising to students and faculty through regular participation in the daytime, evening and weekend reference desk schedule as well as research consultations to individual students
  2. Serve as a library liaison to assigned academic department for instruction, collection development and specialized library services
  3. Provide information literacy instruction through course-related classroom presentation and exercises and other workshops
  4. Serve on the Library Management Team
  5. Meet the Library Faculty requirements delineated in the Faculty Handbook and departmental standards regarding teaching and other Library Faculty responsibilities to support academic programs, service to the College and community, and contributions to the profession.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. ALA-accredited masters degree
  2. Working knowledge of cataloging practices and protocols
  3. Minimum of two years of academic library experience (pre-professional accepted)
  4. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work in a team environment with a strong service orientation
  5. Experience with reference assistance and/or library instruction (preferred)
  6. Degree or coursework in a field related to diversity or social justice (preferred)
  7. Relevant knowledge of library local systems and OCLC (preferred)
