Job Description – Reference/Instruction/Collection Development Librarian

POSITION SUMMARY:
Penfield Library at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a ten-month temporary Librarian position.  We seek an energetic, knowledgeable, service-oriented librarian to provide reference assistance, instruct classes in information literacy skills, and help to promote students’ ability to succeed in a multicultural and global community.

Provide reference service 15-20 hours per week, including chat and text reference.  Serve as liaison for academic department, to be assigned depending on library needs and candidate experience.  Teach information literacy classes as needed for the assigned department, and assist with basic level general instruction.  Develop relevant teaching aids.  Select and review library resources in the assigned area.  Perform other duties as agreed upon, depending on librarian skills and interests and needs of the library.  Some evening and weekend reference work required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited program; strong public service orientation; working knowledge of a wide variety of electronic databases and technology applications; reference service experience; instruction experience; collection development experience; excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.  Availability to begin work quickly.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in an academic library setting; ability to learn quickly in a fast paced environment; demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment.
