Job Description – Electronic Resources Librarian

The Binghamton University Libraries Technical Services departments support the Binghamton University community by providing services including ordering, bibliographic access and maintenance of both print and electronic materials. Technical Services is closely integrated with all other departments within the Libraries. The Electronic Resources Librarian functions as an integral part of the Technical Services team providing electronic resources management and support for materials including, but not limited to, electronic journals, databases and e-books.

A strong commitment to service and user access to information is essential. The position reports to the Director of Technical Services, with the Dean of University Libraries as second-line supervisor. Librarians at Binghamton University are members of the tenure track faculty and are expected to contribute significantly to the profession.

Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited degree program. Evidence of flexibility, innovative thinking, and a vision for the future of academic libraries. Knowledge of the electronic product market, publishing issues, pricing models, and other serials issues, including cataloging. Demonstrated ability to work with detail to ensure accuracy. Ability to analyze data. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external parties and diverse constituencies, including other staff and cross-department/division teams. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities. Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate clearly with others. Strong commitment to service and professional development; demonstrated ability to meet requirements necessary for achieving tenure.

Experience with an integrated library system, preferably by ExLibris, including acquisitions, accounting, serials and/or ERM systems. Experience with library technical services processes. Knowledge of industry standards related to serials and electronic resources. Experience working with licensing issues. Experience with vendors and other content providers, including subscription agents, publishers, and library consortia. Experience with data management. Successful supervisory and management experience.
