Job Description – ILS and Electronic Access Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
The University Libraries seek to hire a skilled, flexible, motivated and service-oriented individual to manage the University’s primary integrated library system (ILS), Aleph 500 by Ex Libris, and access to electronic resources including the Serials Solutions link resolver. Working collaboratively with other members of the Library Systems Department and other library faculty and staff, the successful candidate will provide daily maintenance of the Aleph system; perform system configuration changes and related technical administration tasks; manage releases, version upgrades, and system patches; test, document and implement software; participate in the management of a large and expanding collection of library digital resources; work closely with public service personnel in ensuring seamless access for users; and provide backup to Library Systems staff as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library/information science program
  • Familiarity with the MARC format for bibliographic and authority records, and OCLC software
  • Minimum 1 year experience with the following: software applications needed to manage an Aleph environment, including UNIX commands, structure, and system administration utilities, SFTP, etc.; Oracle relational databases, using SQL/tools for data extraction and report generation; library electronic resource databases management; Serials Solutions’ link resolver; EZ Proxy; content management systems; web dynamic scripts; and client or server side scripts
  • Knowledge of web design and scripting languages (e.g. HTML, XHTML, CSS, Perl, PHP, Python, XML, JavaScript)
  • Evidence of strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills; strong communication skills; and ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff of all levels of computer knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team; build consensus and communicate effectively with colleagues; and master new technologies
  • Strong service orientation, customer focus and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/tasks
